Can Quest Redwood 6 Person Tent Really Accommodate 6 People? (2024)

The Quest Redwood 6 person tent is too small for 6 users, but it is tall and nicely designed with its large vestibule and aerodynamicprofile. It should work well as a three-season tent for up to four people.

Key features & benefits

  • Dome type tent.
  • Pre-bent poles
  • Large vestibule.
  • Guyline pockets.
  • E-port.
  • Great price.

Overview

This Quest Redwood 6 is a dome-type tent with X-crossed but pre-bent poles that create a bit more volume inside than in a standard dome tent. The picture below shows how it looks without the fly, and you realize that in this case it is fully freestanding.

But with the rainfly on, the tent looks quite different and bigger as you realize from the picture below. This is because of its large vestibule supported with an extra pole.

Their information about the vestibule area is quite ridiculous, more below, but it is still quite large. Below you can see the tent from the side to get some idea about the structure:

The tent is with one U-shaped door, and from the picture below you realize that tripping may be an issue if you are with small kids in such a tent.

Note that the tent is quite tall for a dome type, you have 6 ft (183 cm) peak height here; you get some idea from the picture below.

Note that both the vestibule flap and the inner door can be rolled up and fixed above the opening. You will always have a dry entry point and you can keep the flap rolled up even when it rains.

Materials

The poles: You have fiberglass poles here, three in total, all shock corded and easy to use. There are no sleeves on the canopy, clips are everywhere, and at the ground you have grommets, one is shown below.

This all makes the tent easy to use and one person can do the job. The fly attaches to the same grommets as the poles, you can see this in the picture above.

The fabric: They do not provide any information, and I find this irresponsible. With this they show carelessness and disrespect of their potential customers. But the seams are taped.Note also that the floor is not a bathtub type, this is a catenary cut design.

From the pictures you realize that if stealth camping is in your mind, this tent with its cranberry color should definitely not be your first option.

But there are some useful details in the design of this tent. From the pictures below you see that it comes with a cable port and also with small stow-away pockets for guylines, both very useful features.

There are also a few inner storage options like the small gear loft under the canopy.

Note also that there are a few wall pockets, one is shown in the picture below.

The carry bag is really nicely designed, see how it looks:

Ventilation

This tent has plenty of mesh on the canopy so vapor can escape everywhere. But the massive fly is with only one vent on the rear side, see it in the picture bellow. This is not optimal in the case of many users inside, but it may work.

There are no floor vents to help ventilation, but the mesh canopy goes quite low on the sides, and as you see from the picture above, the fly does not go all the way to the ground. This will provide some extra air circulation.

The inner door you can keep open when needed as it is fully protected under the vestibule, so all in all, ventilation should not be an issue in this tent.

Who is the Quest Redwood 6 tent for

Regarding the area and official capacity, the tent is officially for 6 people, but its inner area is 96 ft² (8.6 m²). The dimensions given below show that you can put 6 narrow sleeping pads on the floor.

On the other hand, there is a vestibule, but the area number which they provide makes no sense. As of the moment of writing this text, the information on their site gives 60 square feet. It is so disappointing to see how careless they are with the information given (or not given) with this tent. My estimate of the vestibule area is around 26 ft² (2.4 m²).

But this is the only vestibule and the only access point to the tent for 6 people, so there is no way to use it to store gear.

So realistically, this tent is for maximum four people. I see it suitable for parents with one or two small kids, or just for couples. You might want to compare it with the Core 6 Person Lighted Dome Tent with Full Rainfly.

Regarding seasons & climate, in view of the lack of information it is hard to say much. But the fly is almost full-coverage type, and the general shape is quite smooth and aerodynamic, so it will perform great even in very windy places.

It is best to test it at home regarding waterproofness, and after that you will be sure. All in all, in view of its all features, this is a true three-season tent.

Regarding the weight, the tent is a bit on the heavy side but I do not think this is so important, this is a shelter for car camping.

Regarding the price, I would say it is more than fair for such a tent, you can see updates in the link below.

Final thoughts, rating, pros & cons

In summary, the Quest Redwood 6 person tent looks cool and it should perform well in a variety of situations as a three-season tent. But it is best to ignore its official capacity, and also test it in rain at home before going on camping.

The brand behind this tent shows a lack of responsibility and disrespect for their customers by either providing wrong information or by not providing necessary information about the tent. Even after asking them, they never responded. So I am quite disappointed.

Below you can see how this tent stands against my standard rating criteria that I apply consistently to all of them here in the site so that you can easily compare:
